WHSG’s Sennan Fielding breathed fire into his debut season in the Ginetta Junior Championship with a fantastic double podium at the Rockingham Circuit in Corby at the weekend. In recording 3rd place finishes at the Northamptonshire track in races 15 and 16 of the championship he broke an unlucky run of near misses which have plagued his year to date.
Sennan’s season had followed a similar pattern up to this point; arriving at circuits on the Friday to learn them for the first time, finding the pace to mix with the leaders but come race day always finding himself involved in collisions which were not his fault.
However, at Rockingham, Sennan was able to avoid any trouble and showed his fantastic overtaking ability in Race 1 to secure 3rd place. Race 2 on Sunday followed a similar pattern, although Fielding had to work even harder for the result. Sennan reigned in the leading pack with some scintillating pace, including the fastest lap of 1m37.176 seconds (71.86mph), to eventually take his place on the podium with a final lap manoeuvre of high class.
Podium newcomer Fielding said after the weekend: “We’ve had the pace most of the season, we’ve just not had much luck, but in today’s race it all went well. We struggled in testing as I’ve never been round here before, and we haven’t used any new tyres, so being on the podium is really good. Every time I get in the car I get a bit faster and a bit more comfortable.”
The action comes thick and fast with Races 17 & 18 of the Ginetta Junior Championship season at Brands Hatch on October 1 and 2.
